WHY USE A DOG DAYCARE OR A PET SITTER? |
| |
When I first started taking my dogs to a dog
daycare and having a pet sitter to play with my dogs while I'm at
work, most people who heard about this couldn't help but laugh.
Most of them said,"Why waste your money?" or "They're
just dogs!" |
| |
They can say all they want, but using a dog daycare and
a pet sitter has been one of the best things I've done for
my dogs (besides giving them plenty of treats, playing with
them and enrolling them in an obedience class, of course!).
My dogs get excited when I say the dog daycare's name. They
rush to get in the dog daycare facility and don't even look
back when I try to say goodbye to them; they can't wait to
play with their pals! They're happier to have a pet sitter
come to take them outside and to play with them. Who can hold
going to the bathroom for 8 to 10 hours anyway? |

| To be fair, I've listed some pros and cons of using a dog daycare
or a pet sitter for your dog. |
| |
Pros For Using a Dog Daycare or a Pet Sitter |
Socialization - If it's a cageless dog daycare facility,
your dog gets to play with people and other dogs all day long. It's
important for your dog to socialize with other people and other
dogs to avoid aggressive behavior. |
Exercise - Even if it's not a cageless dog daycare facility,
the dog daycare staff will take your dog out on walks as scheduled. |
Training - Some dog daycare facilities and some pet sitters
may also do basic obedience training or re-enforce your dog's obedience
training if you request them to do so. |
Better behavior - With play time and exercise during the
day, your dog will get tired and tend to listen to you better. |
Peace of mind - You can focus more on your work or enjoy
your activities while your dog is having fun at the dog daycare
facility or with the pet sitter. |
Cleaner house - No more mess in the house! |
No more chewed up furniture and shoes - Dogs with separation
anxiety may chew on anything in the house, such as window sills,
furniture and shoes. |
Bathroom
breaks - Can you hold it for 8 to 10 hours? |
|
Cons For Using a Dog Daycare or a Pet Sitter |
Cost - Using a dog daycare or a pet sitter can be costly.
Depending on the location of the dog daycare facility, it can cost
over $25 per day to have your dog stay at a dog daycare or over
$15 per visit to have a pet sitter come to your house to walk your
dog for 30 minutes. |
Getting sick - Your dog may get sick by eating things that
he or she shouldn't at the dog daycare, or pick up kennel cough.
However, most dog daycare facilities require vaccinations, make
sure to check their requirements. |
Too tired to play with you - If your dog doesn't have any
break time at the dog daycare, your dog may be too tired to play
with you after you get home. However, some dog daycare facilities
require a nap time so the dogs don't get too tired and cranky at
home. |
More bath time - Your dog plays with other dogs all day,
so who knows how many dogs have drooled on your dog? |
